Let Her Go

They say I have to let her go.
Articles say it.
Books say it.
But there's some things they just don't know.
It isn't just me that's holding on.
She says it
She thinks it
She really doesn't want to be gone.

They say think it and it will be so
Just think it
Just believe it
Just do that and she can go.
I wake up early in the dawn.
I think it
I believe it
By nightfall she's still hanging on.

So when the book tells me to let her go
I smile at it
I grin at it
Then I tell that silly book, hell no.
It isn't just me that's hanging on.
We say it
We think it.
Neither one of us wants her gone.

You read too much, she says.
